Waste Management Act

WMA — legal framework

Our operations fully comply with the requirements of the Waste Management Act (WMA, SG No. 53/2012). The WMA regulates the collection, transport, recovery and disposal of waste in Bulgaria.

  • Mandatory permits for transport
  • Requirements for transport documentation
  • Obligation to hand over only to licensed facilities

Ordinance No. 2/2014

Waste classification

Ordinance No. 2 of 23 July 2014 on waste classification transposes the European Waste List (EWL) into Bulgarian law. Every transport is documented with the exact waste code under this ordinance.

  • Codes 18 01 — medical waste
  • Codes 20 01 31*/32 — medicines
  • Codes 16 03 — off-spec batches

Waste transport (consignment) documents

TCD — issued for every transport

For every waste transport we issue a waste transport (consignment) document (TCD). It contains: type and code of the waste, quantity, date and route, details of the carrier and receiving facility.

  • Mandatory under the WMA for every transport
  • Signed by consignor, carrier and consignee
  • Retained for 5 years for inspection purposes

Ordinance No. 1 on hospital waste

Specific to medical waste

The transport of hospital and medical waste is also governed by Ordinance No. 1 of 2015 on the requirements for activities for the collection and treatment of waste on the premises of medical and health establishments — we transport only to licensed incinerators.

  • Approved containers and packaging
  • Labelling in accordance with standards
